Vendula Chalánková won Golden Ribbon Award 2009

Little Red Riding HoodThe Golden Ribbon Status has been awarded yearly since 1992 in the field of books for children and the young. Besides bringing attention to quality youth books it gives support to awarded works and their authors. The competition is in three main sections – art, literature and translation, the fourth one being the special award and the last one is the Gold Ribbon Hall of Fame. You can find such names as Petr Nikl, Lucie Seifertová, Karel Franta or Miloš Macourek among its laureates.

Jury consisting of Jindřich Čapek, Luboš Drtina, Markéta Kroupová, Martin Raudenský and Eva Sýkorová-Pekárková voted Vendula Chalánková’s Little Red Riding Hood the winner of the Beginner Readers category in the Art section. Veronika Klímová, former faculty-mate, did the graphic design and the book proper was published by B4U Publishing, Brno.

Winning the Golden Ribbon means international prestige for Chalánková, too, as it goes together with presentation at the world’s most recognized children’s book fair in Bologna, Italy. Wouldn’t it be a shame not to continue after such a success? It would, definitely! That is why Vendula has already finished making her second book – The Gingerbread Hut, which is just waiting to be published. If you have children, do not hesitate. And if you don’t, prepare.
